Miinikaan ('the SEED' in Ojibwe) offers consulting, landscape design and garden installation. We grow Indigenous gardens that feed people and pollinators, and beautify the urban landscape.
Miinikaan gardens invite curiosity and demonstrate Indigenous Agroecology teachings. We cultivate relationships between people and plants, by teaching and learning about the foods, medicines and habitats. Our designs and gardening techniques improve the local ecology. The plant combinations in our gardens are tolerant of extreme weather and thrive in unlikely urban spaces.

Miinikaan was founded by Chef Johl Whiteduck, owner of NishDish Marketeria & Catering, and Lara Mrosovsky, professional gardener, artist, and author of Grow Without A Garden: 101 Plants for Containers. Our project teams include other Indigenous consultants. Our professional experience encompasses rooftop and container gardens, on-the-ground gardens, pollinator and rain gardens, organic food cultivation, traditional teachings about Indigenous plants, and Indigenous Food Sovereignty.
Teaching
Our team offers workshops, demos, public speaking and teaching, when we are working with you to design or plant a garden. We love schools and educational projects! Our availability for programming is limited during the growing season.
